The Basset Hound came in at #40 in 2013 and now #41 on the 2014 AKC poll of dogs registered in the USA. Not to bad for a low legged lumbering sweet heart of a dog! Keep on your toes with his food or he will be lumbering too much! This breed was made for hunting rabbit and hare. He is the second best, behind a Bloodhound, for smelling out his prey and tracking it.
